2 Session Types:

1) Medical Nutrition Therapy is a counseling-driven process provided by a Registered Dietitian to guide you toward achieving your personal goals. This is the gold standard of nutrition care and is recommended for those with chronic conditions (i.e., diabetes, heart disease, metabolic syndrome, obesity, and kidney disease) who are curious about improving their dietary and/or exercise habits to reduce disease burden. Think of this like any other type of therapy - it typically takes a few sessions to cement lasting changes.

2) Additionally, I offer a brief education session (on GLP-1 use or balanced nutrition using MyPlate) for those seeking knowledge on these topics.

Explore the session types below to find the right session for you.

VISIT FAQS

How many sessions will I need?

Care plans are tailored to your individual needs, with frequency typically determined by your medical conditions and the reason for your visit.

A Focused Session (GLP-1 or MyPlate) is a single, educational visit.

  • GLP-1 Focus: Key health considerations related to GLP-1 use to optimize long-term health and weight loss outcomes.

  • MyPlate Focus: Teaches the principles and reasons behind consuming a balanced diet and provides individual nutrition targets.

  • Implementation: ONE Focused session

For weight management (obesity, eating disorders, age-related failure to thrive), treatment may include:

  • Focus: Behavior management & creating action plans that support your goals.

  • Implementation: Initial consultation + bi-weekly sessions for 3-6 months

  • Maintenance: Monthly follow-ups with transition to quarterly check-ins

For chronic disease management (diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease), treatment may include:

  • Focus: Education & behavior management specific to your condition.

  • Implementation: Initial consultation + 3 to 4 follow-ups in the first 2-3 months

  • Maintenance: Monthly follow-ups with transition to quarterly check-ins

For General Health or Wellness (fertility, menopause, preventative care), treatment may include:

  • Focus: Nutrition education or a “tune-up” session on a chronic condition you’ve already been managing.

  • Implementation: Initial consultation (if new to the practice) + 1-3 follow-ups

  • Maintenance: As needed

How does payment work?

If not submitting to their insurance, patients must pay for a visit before their appointment using the cash-pay rates (see below).

Patients of Progress Medical or Coastal Direct Health & Wellness receive an additional discount for any appointment when using the coupon codes provided by their physicians.

Insurances Currently Accepted as In-Network

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield NC (& BCBSNC Medicare), Aetna & United Healthcare. I cannot accept Medicaid.

What if I have another insurance provider?

  • No Problem! Patients can pay the cash rate upfront, and a superbill will be provided at the end of the visit for you to submit to your insurance for any reimbursement they provide.

Will Insurance Cover My Visit?

  • Insurance coverage varies widely and often depends on the medical conditions you have.

    • Frequently covered medical conditions: Diabetes, Kidney Disease

    • Sometimes covered medical conditions: Obesity, Overweight, Cardiovascular Disease

    • Often covered by private insurance: Conditions where dietary management is considered a “medical necessity.” These can include heart disease, gastrointestinal conditions like Celiac Disease, IBS, IBD, Metabolic Syndrome, Hypertension, Fatty Liver Disease, etc.

  • To find out if your insurance will cover your visit, call the patient services number on your insurance card and ask if you qualify for “Medical Nutrition Therapy.”

    • You can also email me with your insurance information at lori@wellfedcn.com, and I will look up your benefits.

To File A Claim:

  • Diagnoses from Physician: Once you sign an authorization form, I will fax your physician for a list of your medical conditions that can be submitted to your insurance to justify approving your claim.

  • If the claim is denied, you will be responsible for the cash-pay rate for any visits not covered by insurance.
